ELECTRODE FINISHING PLANT

A new plant for raw graphite electrode handling and finishing has been commissioned at the beginning of 2009.

The main technical data are:
Electrode diameter:           400 – 650 mm
Electrode length:               1600 – 3100 mm
Electrode max weight:        1700 kg
Plant capacity:                  120 pieces per 1 eight hours shift

The plant consists of the following sections:

1. Feeding conveyor and crash-test section.
2. Raw electrode weighting, centering and length measurement.
3. Electrical resistance measurement, diameter measurement, sampling machine.
4. Cutting section after turning machine.
5. N°3 intermediate bidirectional storage conveyors.
6. Finished electrode weighting, electrical resistance measurement and final inspection.
7. Painting machine and N°3 unloading stands.

Among the stations a quantity of conveyors (mechanical, belt, chain or roller type) and handling equipment have been provided.

The handling and tracking of the electrodes along the line is managed by a completely automated control system via IFIX based supervising software.
